It would have been nice to post this blog at Christmas and it certainly was great working on a Christmassy quilt over the festive period last year. I love this quilt that Nicola made, and the large star blocks and the snowmen fabrics look great.
We chose meandering stars for the quilt design and gold thread, which always looks great on reds and greens. I absolutely love some of the teal colours in this quilt, and it is so nice to see other peoples work and colour choices. I get alot of inspiration from seeing other peoples works in magazines, books, the internet, and customer quilts.
This design adds such a lovely texture to the quilt. An 80/20 cotton/poly wadding was used, which gives a lovely drape and feel. I understand from Nicola that this received some wonderful comments from her friends and family over Christmas. I love to hear such positive feedback about the quilts that I quilt.
This quilt has also just reminded me of a cowboy themed quilt that I made with stars for my nephew a few years ago now, I have luckily found some photographs, this quilt was a christening present for my nephew Cameron when he was about 3 years old. He still sleeps each night with his quilt and still tells me when I see him that he loves his cowboy quilt.
This quilting is actually one of my very first attempts at quilting a pantograph design and was quilted on my previous table top handiquilter quilting frame and my domestic sewing machine. It was alot of fun, but took a very long time as the design was quite small as I only had about 6 inches to work in at any one time in a row with that set up. It is nice to look back on past work though. It has a lovely cowboy flannel fabric on the reverse too - it is probably quite worn out by now as it has been loved so much..... which of course is what most quilts are all about. To make you feel cozy and warm.
