J-Quilts blog

Just thought that I would share some photographs of my studio, and how it is coming along.
I am loving all of the extra space that I now have to quilt in now, and it is only a 10 minute drive from my house, so not too much distance to travel.  I would prefer if I had all of this space at home, but nothing is perfect !!!
It is a work in progress though and have empty shelves to fill, although I am pretty sure that it won't take me long to fill them.  It is clear to me now as I move my quilting equipment, fabric, books, magazines etc that I have bought way too much over the years, and should really think about selling some things that I am not likely to use anymore.
My quilting machine in the first room .....................
Work space and shelves to fill in the second room ........
Plenty of storage too ........
Last week I attended a local quilt group who meet once a month, and we were lucky enough to have a talk by Monkey buttons bag and quilt designer.  I made sure I only took £40 with me to avoid too much temptation especially as my purchases have been so high with the new premises, but I impulsively bought a 45 fat eighths fabric set and a metre border fabric after seeing one of her quilt patterns that I fell in love with, and also bought the pattern (even though I did not use or need it in the end as it is a fairly simple design).  Unfortunately for me, she took debit cards .....
I had some fun piecing that one last weekend, although not yet finished after another busy week and weekend.  It is in some fabulous Japanese taupe fabrics, although there is one fabric I am not keen on in the finished article, and may unpick and restitch another colour in its place.  It is orange and although part of the fat 1/8ths set, it seems a little out of place, if I leave it in I will regret it for sure.  It is such an expensive fabric range much more than what i would normally spend on fabric,  that I want to be 100% with it before quilting.  Hopefully I will have some show and tell for next months meeting ... maybe the following month...
I have also been busy buying more storage furniture in Ikea for customer quilts coming in, and have also ordered a very large work table for cutting and measuring so I am looking forward to that being delivered at the end of June so that my workshop can be complete (well except for a few more chairs !!!)
I am hoping to run some beginners patchwork workshops in the future if I get enough interested participants, and if I can get some well known tutors to run some more advanced workshops too.  Please contact me with any ideas and preferences of the types of workshop you would be interested in attending, and any teachers you would like to learn their techniques from so that I know what people are interested in.
